IRebuild Africa is delighted to share the success of our recent 5-day Achieving Peaceful School Environment Through Students Leadership" project in Yaounde, Cameroon, where we focused on fostering a peaceful school environment through student leadership. The project, which took place from the 2nd to the 7th of October 2024, involved collaboration with College Bilingue les Sapins, Mario Academy, Mervick Bilingual College, English High School, and GreenHills College, igniting a transformative journey of empowerment. During the project, we provided intensive training to 210 student leaders from these five schools in the Yaounde 6 Municipality. Our program covered essential topics such as conflict management, addressing school-related gender-based violence, and nurturing servant leadership qualities. This transformative two-day program brought together 60 teenage girls aged 11-18, equipping them with the tools and mindset to navigate adolescence and beyond with resilience and purpose. Beyond the traditional focus on financial literacy and menstrual health, the GEP curriculum took a holistic approach to the well-being of these young women. Participants engaged in discussions and activities centered around self-esteem, consent, and healthy relationships - critical life skills that will serve them well as they grow into confident, empowered leaders. The commemoration of the 11th anniversary of the International Day of the Girl Child, under the theme "Invest in Girls Rights: Our Leadership, Our Wellbeing," was marked by a significant event organized by IRebuild Africa in Partnership with NBA foundation and Timely Performance Care Center . The event brought together 50 girls with disabilities from the Timely Performance Care Center and 150 girls from the Presbyterian Comprehensive School in Mfou. The day's activities revolved around interactive sessions focused on self-leadership, girls' rights education, financial literacy, and menstrual hygiene talks. The RevUp Women Initiative Program is a unique enterprise development program that aims to empower women-led businesses in Africa with the skills, resources, and network they need to grow and scale their ventures. The program is an initiative of AfriLabs, a network of innovation hubs across Africa, sponsored by The Visa Foundation, a global philanthropic arm of Visa, and implemented by zixtechhub, a leading innovation hub in Cameroon. The program is currently being implemented in 10 African countries and each country has selected 50 women-led businesses to participate in a 2-month intensive training that covers topics such as business model validation, customer discovery, product development, financial management, marketing, branding, pitching, and fundraising. On October 23rd, 2022, we joined our voices with Plan International Cameroon, the Ministry of Women Empowerment and the Family, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Unicef Yaounde and other civil society organizations in a roundtable discussion on how to enhance girls' access to these rights. We shared our experiences, challenges, opportunities and strategies for promoting girls' empowerment and education in Cameroon. Some of the key issues that we discussed were: - The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on girls' education and well-being. We highlighted the increased risks of school dropout, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence and mental health problems that many girls faced during the lockdown and school closure. On October 15, 2021, IRebuild Africa partnered with Building Together Cameroon to celebrate the International Day of the Rural Woman. This day recognizes the critical role and contribution of rural women in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty. The theme for this year was 'Rural women cultivating good food for all'. We organized a workshop with 10 women leaders from the Ndokwa community in the Upper Sanaga Division. The workshop aimed to empower them with skills and knowledge on how to produce detergents, develop income-generating strategies and promote sustainable livelihoods. We also discussed sexual and reproductive health issues and how to access quality health services.
